Troubleshooting / FAQ
Why are my cuttings rotting instead of rooting?
Usually stagnant water (not changed every 2–3 days) or oversaturated soil. Both restrict oxygen at the cut site and invite bacterial/fungal growth.
Why is nothing happening after 6+ weeks?
Check the "Root Time" column above against your species — some (Dracaena, ZZ plant) simply take longer than fast rooters like Pothos or Tradescantia. Low temperature is the next most common cause.
Can I speed up rooting for slow species?
Rooting hormone, stable warmth (65–80°F / 18–27°C), and a humidity dome help most for species marked "Moderate" or "Hard" difficulty in the table.
Does leaf propagation work for dragon tree / Dracaena?
No. Dracaena marginata and most Dracaena species need a stem section with a node — a leaf alone will not root. Compare against species that do support leaf propagation using the filter above.
