Quick reference
Use these as starting bands, then watch the plant and adjust for season, substrate, pot material and local conditions.
Translate room measurements into plant metrics
These calculators turn grow-light readings and room conditions into the same units used in the lookup table.
DLI calculator
Daily Light Integral = PPFD × light hours × 0.0036.
VPD calculator
Estimates air VPD in kPa, assuming leaf temperature equals room temperature.
20-plant growth lookup
Ranges are practical indoor targets for established plants during active growth—not guarantees or rigid watering schedules.

Side-by-side comparison
Select up to four plants from the table. The cards retain your choices while you change filters.
Growth-stall troubleshooting
Start with the measurable condition most closely connected to the visible symptom.
Long, pale or leaning growth
Check first: DLI and distance from the window or grow light. Increase usable light gradually.
Wilting while soil is wet
Check first: drainage and roots. Saturated media can deprive roots of oxygen and lead to rot.
Crisp edges in a warm room
Check first: VPD. High temperature plus low RH can create leaf-water stress.
No new growth in winter
Check first: seasonal DLI. Reduce watering and do not force growth with extra fertiliser.
Roots visible; soil dries very fast
Check first: root binding. Move up one pot size rather than overpotting.
Brown tips after feeding
Check first: fertiliser strength and salt buildup. Pause feeding and flush a draining pot.

Method and limits
Plant names, growth bands and environmental factors were compiled from and expanded on this indoor plant growth factors guide, then normalized into comparable fields.
- DLI is calculated from PPFD and photoperiod; actual window light varies throughout the day and season.
- VPD here uses room temperature as a proxy for leaf temperature. Direct sun or strong lamps can make leaf temperature differ.
- Watering entries are soil-moisture triggers, not calendar schedules. Pot material, root mass and airflow change drying time.
- Growth intervals describe established plants in active growth. Cultivar, age, acclimation and winter conditions can shift them substantially.
