Cutting isn't rooting after 3+ weeks
Most often the cutting lacks a node, or the node isn't submerged/buried. Check that at least one node sits below the water line or soil surface. Low light and cold rooms (below 65°F / 18°C) also slow this group down significantly.
Cutting rotted in water
Stagnant water is the usual cause. Change water every 2–4 days for Tradescantia, Pothos, and Philodendron types, and make sure no leaves are submerged, only the node/stem.
New growth is less colorful than the parent plant
Applies to variegated types (Nanouk, Marble Queen Pothos, N'Joy Philodendron). Insufficient bright indirect light is the most common cause; genetics of the specific cutting also plays a role.
Roots formed in water but the plant struggled after moving to soil
Water roots and soil roots have different structures. Moving too early (before roots are 1–2 inches) is the most common cause of transplant shock across this entire list.
